First Sighting pays homage to the great vision that inspired the Portuguese explorers to discover a sea route to the spice-rich East. In 1488 Bartholmeu Diaz had the first sighting of the southernmost tip of Africa. Today, the grapes for First Sighting wines are grown on Africa’s southernmost vineyards near Cape Agulhas.

First Sighting wines fully express the terroir of the Elim ward, where varying soil types and relentless winds off the Atlantic ensure slow ripening, modest yields and intense flavours.

This easy-drinking range consists of a:

  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • Shiraz Rosé
  • Pinot Noir
  • Shiraz

Slow ripening has yielded generous flavours“, explains winemaker Conrad Vlok.

Decisions in the vineyard and the cellar are all made with one aim – creating a versatile wine that will quaff well and will be the perfect accompaniment to the food we eat every day“.

First Sighting is a wine for drinking and enjoying“.
