ADAMASTOR 2022
R240.00
Named after the mythical god of wind and storms, Adamastor embodies the tempestuous forces faced by sailors rounding Africa’s southern tip. Produced from 18-year-old vines at Africa’s southernmost vineyards, this Bordeaux-style Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc blend reflects both the rugged Cape Agulhas terroir and the intensity of a challenging vintage. Only a small yield of 3.7 tons per hectare was harvested, with grapes picked between 20–23 Balling from mid-February to early March.
The Sauvignon Blanc component was cold fermented in stainless steel, while the Semillon was barrel fermented and matured for 10 months on the lees in 500-liter French oak barrels. The resulting wine, with a production of just over 6,600 bottles, is a refined expression of the region’s cool maritime climate.
A beautifully layered white Bordeaux-style blend, it opens with aromas of beeswax and honey blossom, followed by gooseberry and dried fig. The palate is complex and textured, with a chalky-dry finish and a subtle whisper of sea spray — capturing the elegance and character of Cape Agulhas in every sip.
Food pairing: Ideal with seafood, grilled fish, poultry, creamy risottos, or soft cheeses.
Serving: Best chilled at ±10–12°C.
Cellaring: Enjoy now or cellar until 2028.
Production: 6,600 bottles only.
