SAUVIGNON BLANC 2024

Grown in the cool coastal vineyards of Cape Agulhas, these Sauvignon Blanc vines draw their vibrant character from the windswept maritime climate and gravelly soils shaped by the meeting of two oceans. The addition of Semillon adds texture and depth, creating a balanced and expressive coastal blend.

The 2024 vintage followed a long, wet winter that stretched into November — the kind of season that defines the Strandveld. Wind, rain, and cold conditions persisted through flowering, resulting in a small but healthy crop (3.7t/ha). Even local wheat farmers were still harvesting right up to Christmas. A cool, dry January and February allowed the grapes to ripen slowly, with harvest beginning on 15 February — nearly two weeks later than usual. Most Sauvignon and Semillon grapes were picked between 20 and 23 balling, up to the 10th of March. The younger vines from Ribokrand and Uintjieskuil came into full production, bringing new energy and layered fruit to the final cuvée.

After gentle pressing, the juice underwent cold fermentation with selected yeast strains to preserve freshness and aromatic intensity. Lees contact for four months added roundness and complexity before bottling on 8 October 2024.

First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc 2024 bursts with expressive aromas of blackcurrant, grenadilla, and gooseberry. The palate is full and smooth with a touch of glycerol weight, showcasing ripe tropical fruit balanced by a crisp, refreshing acidity that lingers beautifully.

Food pairing: Ideal with fresh seafood, grilled calamari, or goat’s cheese salad.
Serving: Best enjoyed well-chilled at ±10–12°C.
Cellaring: Drink now or within 3 years of vintage.
