The 10th Concours Mondial du Sauvignon was hosted by the city of Udine in Italy, on March 8 and 9, 2019. A total 1,010 wines from 26 countries were judged blind by a panel of 73 international experts from 18 countries.
The 122 Gold and 180 Silver medals were awarded to Sauvignons from France, Austria, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Chile, Bulgaria, Germany, the United States, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Greece and Argentina.
France still tops the medal chart with 157 medals (24% more than in 2018). With 45 medals, Austria secured second place. Italy ranked third with a remarkable 66% increase in medals on last year. Two thirds of Italian medals were awarded to Sauvignons from the host region Friuli Venezia Giulia. With 31 % more medals than the previous year, New Zealand rose up to fourth place followed by South Africa.
Only 6 Gold Medals were awarded to South Africa wines, one of which was our very own First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc 2018. We are very proud of this outstanding achievement which once again proves we can hold our own on the international stage.
